Over the past two years, US workers have grappled with one of the most unusual economic environments on record.

On the one hand, the continuing tightness in the labor market has given many workers greater opportunities and wage increases. The unemployment rate is just 3.7% today, but the economy continues to create hundreds of thousands of jobs every month.

In an effort to attract and retain workers in this environment, many employers have raised wages, particularly for low-income earners.

But the highest inflation levels in decades have eaten away at workers’ profits. Annual CPI increases have exceeded 5% every month since May 2021, peaking at 9.1% in June 2022. And many of the categories where costs have risen the fastest are essential necessities, which take up a large chunk of household budgets, like housing and groceries.

To identify the affordable metro areas with the highest number of six-figure jobs, HowtoHome.com researchers calculated locations with the highest percentage of employees in occupations where the median wage is over $100,000 and the cost of living using data from the US Bureau of Statistics and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis. Read more about our methodology at the end.

Here are the affordable US metro areas with the most six-figure jobs.
