The 2023 Baseball Hall of Fame Vote is here. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced the results Tuesday night and Scott Rolen will travel to Cooperstown after appearing on the required 75% of ballots for the election.
Rolen appeared on 76.3% of the ballots, Todd Helton was the second-highest entrant with 72.2%, while Billy Wagner (68.1%), Andruw Jones (58.1%) and Gary Sheffield (55.0%) took the were the only other candidates who turned up on more than 50% of the ballots.
In December, Fred McGriff was elected the newest member of the Hall of Fame – again rejected along with Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling. McGriff was a unanimous choice from among the 16 members of the first contemporary baseball-era committee that considered a vote of eight candidates whose major contributions to the game occurred after 1980.
