Porsche has again been spotted testing a Taycan prototype, outfitted with elements we typically see on one of the automaker’s GT sports cars.

We’ve previously brought you spy footage of a prototype for an updated Taycan, which should arrive later this year to mark the halfway point in the electric sedan and station wagon’s life cycle. However, the prototype shown here is intended for something entirely different.

The new aerodynamic elements such as the extended front splitter, the striking side skirts, the rear diffuser and the rear wing should not be missing. The front air curtains were also sealed, suggesting the prototype could feature new air ducts hidden behind the front fascia.

Lars Kern also points out that the prototype is intended for a new high-performance Taycan variant and has been spotted behind the wheel on occasion, including at some previous Nürburgring tests. He is Porsche’s hot shoe, responsible for many of the automaker’s official lap times around the Ring, and was the driver of the Taycan Turbo S, setting a 7:33.35 lap time at the German circuit over the summer. The time is more than two seconds faster than the time of the much more powerful Tesla Model S Plaid and is the current record for production EVs at Ring.

Note that, just for fun, the engineers also put a “TDI” badge on the trunk lid, a badge that some other Volkswagen Group brands use to denote a diesel engine.

Porsche hasn’t said if it plans to introduce faster versions of the Taycan, although there have been rumors of a more powerful three-engine variant to match not only Tesla’s Plaid but also Lucid’s Air Sapphire and other four-engine electric vehicles in the pipeline. Figure horsepower numbers. Such a variant could be badged as the Taycan Turbo GT, similar to the Cayenne Turbo GT class.

The Taycan’s performance is currently outperformed by the Turbo S-Class, which tops out at 616 hp (750 hp temporarily), or for a 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.6 seconds and a top speed of around 262 mph enough.

Rumors suggest that the potential new Taycan range topper could produce up to 1,000 horsepower, which could drop 0-60 time closer to two seconds and boost top speed to around 200mph. Stay tuned.
