In a terrifying moment caught on camera, Alissa Carlson passed out as she was about to give her morning weather report during a live broadcast for CBS LA’s KCAL. The incident quickly went viral on March 18 as followers waited to hear about Alissa’s condition. It was hours before CBS Los Angeles vice president and news director Mike Dello Stritto released an update that revealed Alissa was being treated at a local hospital. Find out more about Alissa and the incident below.
What happened on the air?
The live feed began with KCAL news anchors Nichelle Medina and Rachel Kim lamenting the rainy weather in LA and hoping for sunny skies. As they were about to finish the driveway and hand the segment over to Alissa, the incident happened. Alissa was on camera when her eyes rolled back, she slumped onto the desk and then fell to the floor. Nichelle and Rachel looked shocked and confused as the feed switched to a March Madness promo.

The updates on Alissa’s health status
Hours after the incident, Alissa took to her Facebook to give the first update on her condition and it was positive. In extra large type, she wrote: “Thank you for all the texts, calls and well wishes. I’ll be fine!”
Shortly after the Facebook message, Stritto issued a statement to TMZ. “Our colleague Alissa Carlson fell ill this morning during our 7am newscast. I would like to thank her staff who took immediate action to comfort Alissa and call 911. Alissa is being treated at the hospital right now. Hopefully we’ll know more shortly,” he said. “In the meantime, we will be thinking of Alissa and praying that she gets much better soon.”
Alissa suffered from a similar situation 9 years ago
Unfortunately, while on another live show, Alissa had a health scare while working at another news channel in 2014, per TMZ. The meteorologist suffered from severe nausea and vomited in mid-air. As a result, she was diagnosed with a leaking heart valve.

In an interview four years later, Alissa said she was surprised to be diagnosed with the condition at such a young age. “I said, ‘Are you kidding me? No, I’m far too young for that and very healthy,'” Alissa recalled her reaction. “They told me that the valve would probably need to be replaced at some point. They didn’t know when it would wear out.”
It is unclear whether Saturday’s incident is related to the heart condition.

She is also a health coach
Alissa is also a health coach, according to her Instagram. “What do I do as a health coach? I change lives!” she wrote in a New Year’s post with a montage of her clients. “Here are just a few of my clients who have decided to get healthy and lose weight in 2022! Will you be next?!” she added.
She also embarked on an intense weight loss journey herself, revealing the results via Instagram (above). “Someone asked me about my transformation pics the other day and I honestly didn’t want to show them,” she wrote alongside the incredible before and after pics. “It’s not like I had a lot of weight to lose before I started this health program. It was more the memories of feeling trapped in a body I wasn’t comfortable with. Whether I was feeling frumpy or chubby, lacking energy or feeling insecure about my clothes, I knew something had to change.”
Alissa is a proud cheerleading mom
By the looks of it on social media, Alissa is rounding up her happily ever after with a husband and daughter! “Meet my handsome husband and shoe guy Neil Schwartz!” she wrote alongside a “pic from his single days” on Instagram.
