Dynamic events in Berlin will continue in 2023. Here are some notable events and activities taking place in the German capital over the coming year.

Charité Museum for the History of Medicine
The Charité Museum of Medical History will reopen in early 2023 after a major expansion and modernization project. The special collection of the Charité Museum of Medical History includes around 10,000 pathological and anatomical specimens. The preparations convey 300 years of medical history and can be viewed after the conversion and expansion of the exhibition area.

Tempelhof Airport
The former Tempelhof Airport is being converted into a place of art and culture, creativity and events. The airport tower with exhibition space and roof terrace will be open to visitors from spring. The Tower THF – 360° Berlin will offer a magnificent view of Tempelhof Airport.

Also in spring 2023 will be the opening of the Swedish photography museum Fotografiska. In addition to locations in Stockholm, New York and Tallinn, the Fotografiska Berlin will be the fourth branch of the renowned museum. The museum is relocating to the former Berlin Kunsthaus Tacheles and is hosting multiple exhibitions of amazing photography simultaneously across nearly 60,000 square meters of exhibition space.

Freedom and Unity Monument
Also in 2023 will be the inauguration of the Freedom and Unity Monument at the Humboldt Forum. A huge, walk-on steel shell is mounted on a large concrete platform to commemorate the peaceful revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. She is standing in front of the new Humboldt Forum. When more than 20 people gather in one half of the bowl, it tilts slightly.

Berlin gallery
In the Berlinische Galerie, a new permanent exhibition opened in November 2022 sheds new light on the everyday life of the prisoners of the former GDR state security apparatus and opens up real working and living spaces of the work columns for the first time. The exhibition is entitled Forced Cooperation: The Hohenschönhausen Prisoner Work Columns. Additional contemporary art exhibitions and programs are planned for 2023.

Berlin International Film Festival
From February 16th to 26th, the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival is showing hundreds of new films at the Berlinale. It is one of the largest public film festivals in the world, with established international and emerging stars among the guests at various venues across the city.

Festival days at the State Opera
At the beginning of April there are festive days at the State Opera with Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis” and a piano recital with works by Bach and Beethoven. The festival takes place in the Philharmonie Berlin.

Other events
Visitors from all over the world celebrate the Carnival of Cultures 2023 Highlights of the Whitsun weekend from May 26th to 29th, a four-day street festival with multicultural parades through the streets of Berlin’s Kruezberg district.

The 45th Christopher Street Day (CSD) Berlin | Berlin Pride takes place. The LGBTQIA+ community and their allies celebrate tolerance and diversity across Berlin every year. The highlight of the massive street parade against discrimination and hatred is the Pride Festival Finale.

On September 24th, the 49th BMW Berlin Marathon 2023 offers around 40,000 runners one of the largest runs in the world in Berlin.

Andrea Bocelli: The World’s Most Beloved Tenor offers a musical mix of classical music, music theater and film. Bocelli is accompanied by a large symphony orchestra, a choir and international guest stars. The event will take place on October 19th at the Mercedes-Benz Arena Berlin.
