In our 2022 Travel Edition we featured stories about northern Italy and France. While editing these pieces, I couldn’t help but dream about travel, especially trips where food and wine were the main focus. I am pleased to report that those daydreams have become a reality with the launch of Bon Appétit Culinary Getaways, a series of expertly guided, food and wine focused tours.

Here’s what’s ahead of us:

Champagne and Paris

In November 2023, Master Sommelier Victoria James, Beverages Director at Gracious Hospitality Management, the restaurant group behind Michelin-starred COTE, cocktail bar UNDERCOTE and COTE Wine Club, will lead a small group of travelers on a journey to France’s Champagne region , followed by a lovely couple of days in Paris. Find out which Parisian wine bars are attractive to a respected sommelier and which chocolatiers she frequents. The journey to Champagne includes visits to small boutique family owned wineries as well as the world famous House of Krug in Reims. You’ll dine at restaurants including Les Avizés in Champagne and small bistros popular with locals. Between food and wine adventures, visit Gothic churches, UNESCO sites, and fossil-rich caves.

Piedmont

Also in November 2023, chef Stefano Secchi leads the Michelin-starred Rezdôra on a trip to Piedmont in northwestern Italy. Secchi will introduce the small group of travelers to chefs, artisans and winemakers, whom he admires because of his training there. Experience slow food at its finest in the region where it was born, and dine on exquisite local produce from Castelmagno cheese to truffles and hazelnuts. You will also explore the Langhe and Roero vineyards, home of the best wines in Italy (Barolo and Barbaresco) and a top destination for any discerning wine connoisseur. Of course, no visit to this corner of Italy would be complete without a tour of Turin, with its varied architecture and delicious food. While this Piedmont trip sold out to our subscribers when we first announced it in February, interested travelers can still join the waitlist.
