“We lose a lot with him.”
With those eight words on Friday, former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele explained why he believes the GOP must reject former President Donald Trump and other forms of so-called Trumpism.
Trump is, at his core, “a carnival barking reality TV show character who accidentally stumbled into the White House with the help of many Americans, some of whom want to bring him back there,” Steele told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace.
Republicans need a moment to reject Trump and Trumpism “as part of our Republican history because they are unelectable,” Steele said.
“The party is sitting there on the docks waiting for a ship with a thousand holes to cast off,” he added.
