dr Anthony Fauci, outgoing director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, reveals more about how he’s coped with his “very uncomfortable” time in President Donald Trump’s administration. (See below.)
Fauci told CNN’s Chris Wallace he was “uncomfortable” about publicly disagreeing with Trump during the White House briefings.
“And that’s essentially how I became the number one public enemy of the far right, which I didn’t want to put in that position,” Fauci said.
Fauci added that he’s happy to collaborate with GOP-threatened House investigations into his pandemic recommendations, even as he becomes a “punching bag” to his critics.
Fauci will retire this month after a 54-year career in government, including 38 years as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
