Florence Pugh, Rami Malek Join Christopher Nolan Oppenheimer Movie – The Hollywood Reporter

Christopher Nolan’s film about the father of the atomic bomb continues to attract Hollywood’s list.

Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Benny Safdie are the latest actors to bring their nuclear star power to Oppenheimer, the Nolan biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, set at Universal Pictures.

The trio joins Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Cillian Murphy on the contact sheet in what has become one of the most iconic projects stacked in recent memory.

Universal described the film as “an epic thriller that drives audiences into the shocking paradox of a mysterious man who must risk the destruction of the world in order to save it.”

Murphy leads the cast, portraying the theoretical physicist who helped develop the atomic bomb during World War II.

Pugh will play Jan Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party of the United States who has an affair with Oppenheimer and has been the cause of government officials’ primary security concerns.

Safdie will play Edward Teller, a Hungarian physicist known as the father of the hydrogen bomb and a member of the Manhattan Project, the American research initiative that developed the first atomic bomb.

Malik plays a scientist.

Already on Call of Names Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer and Damon as Lieutenant General Leslie Groves, director of the Manhattan Project. Downey plays Louis Strauss, the notorious head of the Atomic Energy Commission who initiated hearings that questioned Oppenheimer’s loyalty to the United States and is notorious for revoking the world’s security clearance.

Nolan wrote and directs the script, while his creative partner and wife, Emma Thomas, produce with Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment. The project depends on The American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of Robert Oppenheimer Written by Kay Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The book was published in 2005, and won a Pulitzer Prize.

The studio has set an Oppenheimer release date for July 21, 2023.

Pugh, who received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in 2019’s Little Women, starred opposite Scarlett Johansson in Marvel’s. Black Widow, which grossed nearly $380 million when it was released in July, a solid showcase for a pandemic era release. She re-enacts the character of her murderous spy Elena Belova for hook TV series, now unfolding on Disney+. She will then appear as a part of Olivia Wilde’s thriller, do not worry my loveNew Line, to be launched on September 23, 2022.

Malik takes a nasty turn in the James Bond movie No time to die, which grosses $765 million, is the highest-grossing American film of the year. The actor who won an Oscar for his role as Freddie Mercury Bohemian RhapsodyShe will then appear in David O. Russell’s latest film, an untitled drama set to release next year.

Safdie is half of the acclaimed directing duo, Safdie Brothers, known for films like good time And Uncut Gemstones. Safdie is also an actor in his own right and plays a major role in Paul Thomas Anderson Licorice pizza. He also has a role in the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi and Lionsgate Are you with God? I’m Margaret.
