France advance to the semi-finals of the World Cup, England wins 2-1

AL KHOR, Qatar (AP) — Kylian Mbappe and France made it back to the semi-finals of the World Cup on Saturday with a 2-1 win over England.
Olivier Giroud struck in the 78th minute at the Al Bayt Stadium to keep France on course and become the first team to win two consecutive World Cups since Brazil 1962.
England striker Harry Kane had a chance to equalize late in the game, but he sent a penalty over the bar.
It was his second penalty of the game. Before that, he scored to make it 1-1 after Aurelien Tchouameni gave France the lead.
France meets Morocco in the semifinals on Wednesday. Morocco became the first African team to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup with a 1-0 win over Portugal.
