Glee’s Kevin McHale speaks out against documentaries about the show

“In terms of the Discovery+ documentary, at least it seems to me even more important to do the podcast because we were the ones who were there,” Ushkowitz told the outlet. “And we were the ones who experienced that. And we know what really happened. You know, to me it feels even more relevant to actually be the ones sharing our experiences when people are sharing experiences they didn’t have.”

McHale added, “Also, I think the other reason we wanted to do this was because with the pandemic and TikTok, there’s been this weird resurgence of Glee. A whole new generation of people has found it. Like kids who weren’t alive when the show started we were talking to [creator] Ryan [Murphy] also about how cool and what an opportunity this is for people. They’re not necessarily attached to all the, say, drama or bad things that people are going to talk about in the press, because they’re just looking at it with new eyes.”

McHale and Jenna starred in all six seasons of Glee ending in 2015. Cory, who played her character’s boyfriend Finn Hudson, died of an accidental drug overdose in 2013 at the age of 31.
