Top German tuner Techart will use next week’s Bangkok Auto Show 2023 to unveil its new range of upgrades aimed at improving a car’s track performance.
The new line is called Flyweight and, like the boxing category of the same name, stands for lightness, agility and speed.
Techart has demonstrated the possibilities with a new version of its Porsche 911 Turbo S-based GT Street R flagship, outfitted with a host of flyweight upgrades.
Known as the GT Street R Flyweight, the car is limited to 19 units and is currently available to order.
The focus of the engineers when developing the flyweight version was aerodynamics, chassis and weight.
For aerodynamics there are new features such as the carbon fiber front splitter, front fender ventilation, wheel arch extensions and the rear wing. The wing features air intakes as well as a three-position manual adjustment, allowing the aero balance to be tailored to specific racetracks.

To optimize weight, engineers added a polycarbonate rear window, custom exhaust, and Recaro carbon fiber seats (which weigh just 10.8 pounds per shell). They also swapped the bonnet and rear air intake panel fasteners for lightweight quick-release fasteners. The rear seats were also removed and the parcel shelf replaced with a carbon replacement. A roll bar and a six-point harness were also installed in the rear. About 132 pounds of weight were saved over a production model with similar options, according to Techart.
And for the chassis, Techart added a specially tuned Öhlins coilover kit that is height, rebound and compression adjustable. There are also custom wishbones on the front axle, which Techart says improve wheel control. The wheels are a set of Techart’s own Formula VI Race Flyweight forgings, measuring 20 inches in the front and 21 inches in the rear. They are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

Power comes from the GT Street R’s stock Stage 2 powertrain. The setup is based on the 911 Turbo S’ twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-6, but spits it out thanks to a host of upgrades including custom turbochargers, high- Flow air cleaner and 800 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque from revised ECU tuning.
Claimed performance numbers include a 0-62 mph time in 2.5 seconds, a 0-124 mph time in 7.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 217 mph.
