(Natural News) House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has subpoenaed Bank of America over the financial records of three Hunter Biden associates, in what analysts are calling “opening new avenues of investigation” into the Watch “first family crime syndicate.”

The move apparently alarmed House Democrats, who were quick to defend the president’s son. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) accused Comer of blocking the committee’s receipt of financial documents subpoenaed by Mazars USA, former President Donald Trump’s accounting firm.

“The committee simply cannot coordinate with former President Trump’s attorneys to prevent a lawful subpoena investigating his proven corruption and then issue an invasive and overblown subpoena based on an investigation into the business dealings of his political rival’s son, who has never served in government.” Raskin wrote in a March 12 letter addressed to Comer.

A committee spokesman addressed the allegations. “The allegation made by senior member Raskin is completely unfounded and untrue. There was no vote or discussion by anyone on the majority of the committee with anyone on the Mazars documents,” the spokesman said, citing that even Raskin’s own letter admitted there was no evidence of what he was alleging against Comer.

The spokesman added that Raskin may want his staff to re-examine the records obtained by the committee, as there are several notable developments that have both cemented the committee’s understanding of several problem areas and opened new avenues for investigating the Biden’s business plans the family. Last month, an attorney for the younger Biden denied the committee’s request for documents and information, arguing there was “no legislative purpose.”

On March 10, a hearing titled “The Biden Family Investigation: The Department of the Treasury (USDT)” was postponed because the requested witness refused to attend that day.

Comer said Treasury Department officials have repeatedly acknowledged their cooperation with the committee’s request, “but all we’ve seen is obstruction.” He added that several bona fide adjustments were offered, but the Fed department continued to use delaying tactics .

The hearing focused on the Treasury Department’s refusal to provide banking activity reports on Hunter Biden’s financial dealings. GOP House has repeatedly said it will investigate the family’s overseas operations in China and Ukraine by looking at the department’s suspicious activity reports on its transactions. Even before Republicans had a majority, Comer requested documents from the Treasury Department to launch an investigation into Biden’s son.

Back in February, the committee chairman formally requested Hunter, the president’s brother James Biden, and their former business partner Eric Schwerin to provide the oversight committee with all documents, communications and records relating to the president’s involvement in their business plans.

“The evidence obtained in our investigation shows that the Biden family’s business model builds on Joe Biden’s political career and connections,” Comer said at the time.

“Biden family members attempted to sell access around the world, including individuals associated with the Chinese Communist Party, to enrich themselves to the detriment of American interests. When President Biden is compromised by dealings with foreign opponents and they influence his decision-making, it is a threat to national security.”
