Ja Morant will return sooner than expected after spraining his ankle
In a 19-point scoring effort against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant went down with a left ankle injury after landing awkwardly on it. The reigning Most Improved Player also had 11 assists in the competition. Initial examinations of his ankle indicated that Morant would suffer a grade 1 ankle sprain week in and week out.
However, as the Grizzlies prepare to face the Sacramento Kings at 8 p.m. Tuesday, the team listed their all-star point guard as questionable via NBC Sports. A possible return to the court after missing just one game against the Brooklyn Nets is entirely possible.
There’s no better time for the Grizzlies to get Morant back than now. The Kings are on a six-game winning streak, and with Memphis still without Desmond Bane, this team will need a little more to come out with a win. Bane averaged 24.7 points with an impressive three shot percentage at 45.1 percent.
For the season, the Grizzlies are 10-7, which is good enough for eighth place in the Western Conference. Those next two games will be important because Memphis has a chance to overtake the fifth seed Sacramento (9-6). A Tuesday win for the Grizzlies and a Friday win against the New Orleans Pelicans (10-7) will put them in a prime position to do so.
