Microsoft said it was investigating issues with its online services, including its Teams messaging platform and Outlook email system, on Wednesday after users around the world reported outages.
In a status update, the tech company reported a “degradation in service” for a number of its Microsoft 365 services.
Thousands of users reported problems with Teams, Outlook, cloud computing service Azure and online gaming service XBox Live early Wednesday on the Downdetector website that tracks outage reports. Later in the morning it became apparent that the number of reports had dropped significantly.
Many users took to social media to complain about the service failure, noting that the issues were affecting their work. However, by 8:00 a.m. ET, service appeared to have been restored.
“No Azure issues have been detected at this time,” Microsoft said on a status page.

“We’ve narrowed the issue down to a network configuration issue and are analyzing the best mitigation strategy to address it without causing additional impact,” the Microsoft 365 Status Twitter account said earlier in the morning.
It added that a network change suspected of causing the problem was rolled back and was monitoring how the rollback took effect.
A day earlier, Microsoft reported that its quarterly profit fell 12%, reflecting the economic uncertainty that the company said led to its decision this month to cut 10,000 jobs.
