Nasa’s Orion capsule returns safely to Earth

Humans last landed on the moon on December 11, 1972 at 19:54 GMT. The Apollo 17 crew, consisting of Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt, spent a little over three days on the surface before returning home. Remastered by image processor Andy Saunders, this image shows the bootprints they left. If it weren’t for the erosion that’s occurring on Earth, those marks would look exactly like this half a century later.
