OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus subscription launches in India

ChatGPT Plus, the subscription service for accessing OpenAI’s text-generating AI, is now available in India. ChatGPT Plus includes GPT-4, the refined AI model that OpenAI introduced earlier this week.

The paid tier gives customers early access to new features, including GPT-4. ChatGPT Plus launched in the US in February after being in early preview for a few weeks and is available for a monthly subscription price of $20. A subscription allows a customer to use ChatGPT even during peak usage hours, get faster responses, and get priority access to new features and improvements.

OpenAI also continues to offer a free version of ChatGPT – albeit with some limitations – on its website. If you don’t want to pay for access, you can still enjoy the ChatGPT experience through the Bing search engine.

OpenAI initially had a waiting list for users to access ChatGPT Plus. However, shortly after the release, the startup made the subscription service available to all users. The service aims to help OpenAI monetize ChatGPT, which has gone viral in recent months and gained mass appeal due to its AI-powered conversational experience.

Understandably, ChatGPT has also faced some controversy and bans due to the nature and sophistication of its human-like responses, which can be deceptive. Its advanced text-conversation capabilities have certainly appealed to the masses and even led Microsoft, OpenAI’s early investor, to integrate the experience into its services. Competitors like Baidu and Google have also started developing similar conversational AI experiences.
