Passaic New Jersey chemical plant fire is 11 alarm at Qualco

PASIC – More than 200 firefighters continued to battle an 11-alarm chemical fire that sent one to the hospital early Saturday morning.

Freezing temperatures have frozen the runoff water and created more risks for first responders from three counties.

Mayor Hector Laura said that the bulk of the fire, which started around 8:30 p.m. Friday, is on the Majestic Industries portion of the property, but that that portion has also spread to the Qualco Chemicals plant at 225 Passaic St.

Laura, who took to Facebook Live all night with updates, said the fire was in several buildings and that they expect to lose the entire structure. .

“There were bad fires but this is the worst I’ve ever seen,” he said.
