From the amphitheater to the subway, Bayer Moss She combines luxury and sportswear in the release of her latest collection.
Last weekend, the New York-based company released a new teal color of its first indoor sneaker, “THE SCULPT.” Matching the teal color, the brand also released an oversized green sweatshirt bearing the Pyer Moss name and the “little couture fashion company” logo.
Pyer Moss was founded in 2013 by an American designer of Haitian origin Kirby Jean Raymond. Jean-Raymond uses his brand as a platform to challenge social narratives, present social issues and spark dialogue.
He shocked the fashion world by achieving social justice on the catwalk. During the Spring 2016 fashion show, the designer screened a 12-minute self-produced film highlighting racial tensions and police brutality in America.
Despite the backlash, Jean Raymond continues to use fashion as a channel for positive social change. He specifically describes the brand as an “artistic project” / “a timely social experiment” that is constantly redefining itself.
Over the years, Moss has been known for her creative and highly anticipated shows. Within each set, Jean Raymond showcases a mix of storytelling, activism, debate, theater and social commentary, all while using collaborations with artists and brands as a way to foster dialogue around seasonal themes.
Through these visual conversations, the self-taught designer finds a way to celebrate black culture whether it’s through the location, the art, or the music on display.
“I want to show that lions can be beautiful and not just exciting. Not always tragic, and not always ‘entertaining’. They can exist for the sole purpose of being us.” Jean Raymond said garage.
For example, Pyer Moss organized a fashion show in Weeksville Brooklyn, a historic black neighborhood founded by freed slaves in the 1970s and known today as one of the first free black neighborhoods in the country. He also collaborated with the black artist Derek Adams To create images that highlight the black joy that will later appear on the brand’s silk apparel.
The gospel choir is another mainstay of the Bayer Moss performances. Over the years, Jean Raymond has used music to enliven his shows.
Finally, Jean Raymond keeps an eye on the details as we saw during his landmark show this summer. In July 2021, the designer made history as the first black American designer to showcase a haute couture collection with the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode.
With the rise of activists and rappers, the haute couture show was not only an ode to black innovation, but also an ode to black culture. In the 25-piece collection titled WAT U IZ, Jean-Raymond combined fashion and surrealism to showcase the plethora of black inventions used in everyday life.
While the brand is best known for its creative fashion shows, it is slowly taking over the sports world.
In 2018, Pyer Moss launched her long-awaited collection, “Reebok by Pyer Moss” as part of their newly announced partnership with the footwear giant. Alongside his award-winning sneaker collaboration, the two brands have announced their partnership on “Reebok Studies__,” a division focused on developing young and emerging creative talent and ideas.
“I have very clear intentions of what I want to do, who I want to be, who I want to help. And what I want my legacy to be in this industry. If nothing else, I want to be able to say I didn’t make anything.” Not only did you love Pyer Moss, but you also helped other people realize their dreams.” Jean Raymond said New York times.
The Rebook section was only the first of founder Pyer Moss’ initiatives out of fashion. Jean Raymond has spent the past year and a half building a space for color designers with his new fashion collection, Your Friends in New York.
Whether it’s through haute couture shows, exclusive street fashion shows, or community initiatives, Kerby Jean-Raymond is making a difference in the fashion industry.
Pyer Moss is sold on a limited basis and not on schedule in exclusive high-end boutiques worldwide.
