Ron DeSantis urges Congress to rule Apple after tech giant threatens to ban Twitter after Musk takeover – zoohousenews.com

(Natural News) Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is no stranger to the culture wars, and whenever he sees a battle brewing, he’s one of the first to wade right into it.

The newly re-elected Republican, who may be seeking a presidential nomination in 2024, reacted violently this week to a threat from Apple CEO Tim Cook to remove Twitter from Apple’s App Store because he doesn’t like the new owner Elon Musk’s accounts unblocked and up to date advertising makes freedom of speech on the platform.

In fact, DeSantis is urging Republicans in Congress, who will take control of the House in January, on how to act and take action against Apple if it bans Twitter from its store.

“That would be a big, big mistake, and it would be a really crude exercise of monopolistic power, which I think would deserve a response from the United States Congress.” DeSantis narrated to an audience in Duval County, Floridaon Tuesday.

His comments come after Musk tweeted that Apple is pulling its ads off the platform along with other big advertisers as they give in to left-wing pressure campaigns run by bright-eyed cowards.

“Apple has largely stopped advertising on Twitter. Do you hate free speech in America?” Musk asked on Twitter. “Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store,” he wrote, “but won’t tell us why.” The tech billionaire also directly asked CEO Tim Cook, “What’s going on?”

The Epoch Times further noted:

Outside of DeSantis, other Republicans said Apple and Google have too much control over the internet through their respective app download stores. Removing Twitter from both would mean the social media app would be severely limited in its growth and usage.

Parler, a conservative-favorite social media platform, was removed from the App Store, Google Play and Amazon Web Services days after the Jan. 6 Capitol incident. The site was inaccessible for more than a month and the data shows that its usage has dropped significantly over this period and has never recovered.

“That’s why we need to end the app store duopoly this year. Nobody should have that kind of market power,” Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo) wrote on the platform.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), who co-sponsored legislation targeting app stores, added that “Apple and Google currently have a stranglehold on companies and have used their influence to victimize companies.”

Cook, for his part, made a noncommittal statement about the intention to remove Twitter from the App Store.

“They say they will continue to moderate, and that’s why… I’m counting on them to do that,” he said during a Nov. 15 interview, The Epoch Times reported.

DeSantis appears to be gearing up for a presidential nomination. In particular, he will publish his autobiography.

“The book, which chronicles the rise of the popular GOP governor from a star little league baseball player to one of the most important figures in politics, is slated for release in February, just in time for potential presidential candidates to begin building a war chest and campaign organization ahead of the 2024 election,” the Conservative Brief reported Wednesday.

“While DeSantis has not announced any plans to challenge former President Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, books like this often precede White House bids,” added The Daily Wire.
