In their statement, US Soccer also offered its condolences to Celine and all of his family and friends.
“Grant has made football his life’s work and we are devastated that he and his brilliant lyrics will no longer be with us,” the organization said. “We thank Grant for his tremendous commitment and impact on our game in the United States. His writing and the stories he told will live on.”
Grant has written for publications such as Sports Illustrated and is the author of books such as The Beckham Experiment: How the World’s Most Famous Athlete Tried to Conquer America and Masters of Modern Soccer: How the World’s Best Play the Twenty-First-Century Game. He produced the 2022 miniseries Good Rivals, about the “rivalry between the United States and Mexico national soccer teams,” per IMDb.
After his death, spokesman for the US State Department tweeted that they are “in contact with senior Qatari officials to ensure that his family’s wishes are met as soon as possible” and that they are in “close contact” with Grant’s family.
E! News has reached out to Grant’s rep, but has received no comment.
