Steph Curry, Klay Thompson graded in Warriors vs. Bucks

The Golden State Warriors lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 118-99 Thursday night, and frankly, that wasn’t close. It wasn’t even close to being close. Dubs spent much of the game trailing 30 or more points behind, losing by 39 points — 77-38 — in the first half.

This is how you will remember the game.

It was brutal. Really brutal. Nobody’s fun, except for Milwaukee folks.

So let’s check these players’ scores, weight our expectations of each player as always, and work as fast as we can to dodge the pain.

deep breath. We can do this. We’ll get through it together.

Andrew Wiggins

28 min, 16 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 2 spins, 1 foul, 6 vs 11 shots, 2 vs 5, 2 vs 2 free throws, -15

Like most (all?) Warriors, Wiggins did nothing substantial in the first half, trailing Dobbs by an insurmountable amount. He recovered a bit in the third quarter with a little offensive cadence, and finished as the only Warriors to shoot better than 50% of the field.

If we were evaluating the scores for his teammates, he would get a great score.

Post-game bonus: He led the team with points.

kevon looney

15 minutes, 7 points, 7 rebounds, 1 pass, 1 block, 4 fouls, 2 for 5 shots, 3 for 6 free throws, -3

Really nothing of note here is chromatic. He was the least of the warriors’ problems, but he’s a player who looks a lot better when others play well, because he won’t save you when the attack can’t muster anything.

B degree

steve curry

29 minutes, 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 4 turns, 4 for 11, 2 for 6 triples, 2 for 2 free throws, -25

First, huge props for Milwaukee, who did an excellent job defending Curry despite Jrue Holiday’s absence, just as the Memphis Grizzlies did on Tuesday without Dillon Brooks.

I wouldn’t say Carrey was bad, but… he didn’t have the Carrey effect.

Class: C

Post-game bonus: He led the team in rebounds and assists, the worst over/minus on the team.

Klay Thompson

21 minutes, 11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 spin, 1 foul, 3 for 11 shots, 2 for 7 threes, 3 for 3 free throws, -8

We’re still at the point where it’s good to see Thompson, not at the point where he evaluates his game. The best thing about this game for Thompson is that, with Steve Kerr knowing the fourth quarter would be just inaccurate minutes, Klay had to play the entire third frame. It was the longest streak of unbroken minutes from a long shot, and hopefully it will help him get some rhythm and conditioning.

He will rest on Friday against the Chicago Bulls.

Gary Payton II

5 minutes, 0 points, 1 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 spin, 1 foul, 0 on 1, 0 on 1, -12

GP2 started in place of Draymond Green, who remained until Sunday at the earliest, unfortunately Payton joined Green after just a few minutes, leaving the match with a tight back and never coming back.

Grade: B / Incomplete

Nemanja Bielica

15 minutes, 0 points, 1 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 for 7, 0 for 4 triples, -2

Bjelica is a player who does a lot of little things, but what he does best is shoot, and it’s really hard to make a strong impact when throwing out a donut in seven tries.

Class: C

Jonathan Kuminga

19 min, 15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 foul, 5 for 16 shot, 1 for 3 triples, 4 for 6 free throws, +6

Kuminga’s offense is still far from his quality efficiency point, but he certainly showed how many tools he had in his bag – and how much sport he should apply to those.

The rookie was a big part of the Warriors as he comfortably edged out Milwaukee in the second half.

Grade: B +

Andre Iguodala

13 min, 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 pass, 1 spin, 1 foul, 1 vs 3 shot, 0 vs 1 three, -21

Like the rest of the veterans, Iguodala didn’t play much once Kerr decided the outcome of the game wasn’t up for debate. It was an unforgettable day for Andrei.

Class: C

Otto Porter Jr.

15 minutes, 8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 pass, 1 steal, 3 vs 6 shot, 2 vs 3 triples, -4

A very solid game for Porter, who scored efficiently, smashed the lawn, did a lot of little things and, unlike the team as a whole, did not look lost.

Grade: B +

Juan Toscano Anderson

18 minutes, 9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 spin, 1 foul, 3 for 6 shots, 3 for 5, free throws 0 for 2, -12

Also a good show for JTA, after a few approx minutes in Memphis. When Toscano Anderson makes his players, he can totally be a weapon.

B degree

Damion Lee

23 minutes, 7 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 spin, 2 fouls, 3 for 7 shots, 1 for 3, -12

Big props for Lee to smash glass just as hard as he did. These are the things that can motivate a struggling team, even if Costco’s shipment of jumper cables didn’t start in Dubs Thursday.

B degree

Jordan Paul

24 minutes, 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 turns, 2 fouls, 2 for 7 shots, 2 for 7 triples, 3 for 3 free throws, +2

Sure, Paul didn’t carry the bench offense, as Warriors often ask him to do, but he did some pretty cool stuff in this game. He did a good job of getting a quality look, though they didn’t fall out.

Class: C

Chris Chiusa

14 min, 3 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 turns, 1 foul, 1 for 4, 1 for 3, +11

Chiozza had one of his longest stretches of minutes this season, as Kerr went with an inaccurate time line-up for the entire fourth quarter. Dubs’ two-way contract has done some good, even if no one is likely to remember that part of the game.

Grade: B +

Post-game bonus: He led the team in + / minus.

Thursday idle: Draymond Green, Moses Moody, Quandary Witherspoon, James Wiseman
