A suspect is being held in connection with a fatal traffic incident in Maywood, authorities said.

Deputies were responding to a report of a man being hit by a vehicle near the intersection of E. 58th Street and Atlantic Boulevard around 8 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

When they arrived, they said they found a man with upper body injuries. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators determined the man was involved in a road traffic incident before he was hit, MPs said.

It appeared the man got out of his vehicle before he was hit by a green Tahoe, Lt. Sheriff’s Omar Camacho opposite KTLA5. The driver of the Tahoe reportedly left the scene, then returned and turned himself in to authorities.

On Saturday, MPs said the suspect remains in custody.
